May 29, 2016 – The GAINN4SHIP INNOVATION project was presented at the International Shipbuilding Exhibition held in Vigo (Spain) during May 24-26.
The event included a workshop on the use of LNG (liquefied natural gas) as a marine fuel. Industry related companies (naval engineering, engine manufacturers, shipyards, classification societies and gas supply companies) showed the feasibility of using LNG for newly built or retrofitted ships. They also highlighted the privileged position of Spain in terms of availability and logistics to supply LNG for the ships that use it.
Fred. Olsen and Fundación Valenciaport unveiled the retrofitting transformation that is taking place in the ropax high-speed vessel ‘Bencomo Express’, so that it can be powered by LNG whilst maintaining the current performance for the ferry service between the ports of Agaete (Gran Canaria) and Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Tenerife).
