15 June 2016.- The European GAINN4SHIP INNOVATION project, coordinated by the Fundación Valenciaport is being exhibited this week at the “2016 GENERA Innovation Gallery” in the Energy and Environment International Trade Fair held at Madrid’s IFEMA venue.
The Innovation Gallery jury selected this project due to its high level of technological innovation and the contribution it makes towards improving energy efficiency, sustainability and protecting the environment.
Thanks to the GAINN4SHIP INNOVATION project, coordinated by Fundación Valenciaport and co-financed by the European Union via the “Connect Europe” programme, the world’s first conversion to LNG fuel of a high-speed ropax vessel, the Bencomo Express, will be carried out. This vessel is operated by Fred. Olsen S.A. in the Canary Islands, an archipelago designated as a particularly sensitive sea area since 2014.
The technical solution to be applied to this vessel will demonstrate the feasibility of using LNG as a marine fuel, achieving (at least) a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions reduction and an 80% reduction in sulphur emissions.
