June 7, 2019 – This week the “GAINN4MOS Azores Political Event” has been celebrated at the Academia de Juventude e das Artes da Ilha Terceira headquarters (Azores), organised by the Fundación Valenciaport and Ports of Azores.
This event was focused on the special needs and difficulties that outermost regions come across in their efforts to comply with the Alternative Fuels Directive and European Transport and environmental regulation.
The meeting featured the participation of Regional Secretary of Transports and Public Works, Ana Cunha who gave the opening speech.
This was followed by Marina Sáez, Director of Communication of Fundación Valenciaport, who presented the speech: GAINN projects & more: LNG for maritime applications in the Mediterranean area, and Francisco Bettencourt from Ports of Azores, who made a presentation under the title: Situation in Azores. Problems to develop LNG as Marine fuel in outermost regions. Moreover, the situation in Madeira was explained by Rui Lopes from Ports of Madeira.
Finally a discussion panel on future actions has been held in which the following have participated: Rui Lopes from Ports of Madeira (moderator), Francisco Bettencourt from Ports of Azores and Mercedes de Juan from Fundación Valenciaport.
The event was attended by representatives of the port community as well as representatives of the municipality and general public.
